So what's been keeping me preoccupied? Well, first there was Easter. This meant a lot of egg coloring,
treat making,
and decorating.
Not to mention getting ready for and attending church!
But Easter was definitely worth all that went into it.
The next weekend was my son's First Communion. Here he is with his banner we made
and spruced up for the big day.
We had lunch afterwards for our family.
And cake. As Julia Child said, "A party without a cake is just a meeting." I wholeheartedly agree.
The next weekend was my niece's First Communion. It was in my hometown about 30 miles away from where we live.
It was a beautiful day that we got to spend with extended family. But after that, I think we were all pretty much First Communioned out for a bit. Of course, the next weekend rolled around, and it was Mother's Day.
I had hoped to work up a big post about being a mother, but in the day-to-day business of being a mother, that got away from me. This quote sums it up and says it better than anything I would have come up with:
Then this weekend my daughter had her dress rehearsal for ballet. She was four when she started dance, so we have been through this many times. But it's always a little emotional for me when they start the music. Darn allergies, making my eyes water...
It was also my son's ninth birthday this weekend. I am working on a longer post about that because I am a little shell shocked that he turned nine this year. The forthcoming post is more about the passage of time than his birthday. It's one I've been thinking about for quite a long time, and as soon as I can find the elusive passage I read years ago before I was ever a mother, I'll be sharing it. Until then, a birthday picture -
